Did you know that 13 BILLION pounds of paper towel waste is produced in the United States annually? Or, that the largest contributor to pollution is actually residential, not industrial? In China, over 40% of their rivers are considered COMPLETELY unsafe for drinking! Long-term exposure to many of the cleaning products you use in your home everyday have a cancer-causing potential. Maybe this is all news to you, however I believe we can all learn something new. I try to learn from those older and younger than me every day!
Once you have learned something wonderful, it is impossible to keep it to yourself! Nelson Mandela once said, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world”, and that is what I intend on doing. My passion is in teaching – I will gladly inform anyone who will listen about how to clean without the use of harmful chemicals.
Many people are in the dark regarding the harmful qualities of many cleaning products. My team and I act as educators, enlightening others on how to positively change their homes for the better. This education enables us to make choices. Therefore, my approach is simple. Upon discovering such a great product, I feel it is my responsibility to share what I have learned with others.
I don’t sell a product; I educate consumers about a product and let them make a choice.
So, here is my role as an educator. If you haven’t yet discovered the benefits of Norwex EnviroCloth, here’s a few reasons why you may want to abandon paper towels for good:
- 2,400-3,000 paper towels are disposed of by the average person, annually
- Paper towels are used in 90% of households, daily
- The 13 billion pounds of annual waste I referred to earlier? That works out to a whopping 3,000 tons of waste daily, comparable to the weight of 1650 economy cars!!!
- So, what does it take to produce just 1 ton of paper towels, you ask? About 17 trees and 20,000 gallons of water!
- So, the 3,000 tons of waste produced daily in the United States accounts for the consumption of approximately 51,000 trees and 60 million gallons of water!
- Paper towels, even when made of recycled materials still produce an environmental impact. The recycling process still uses water, energy and chemicals.
So, what can we do to help?
Cutting back on only one less sheet of paper towel per day could save North America 571,230,000 pounds of paper towel waste, every year. Now imagine, if one by one, households began to eliminate paper towel waste altogether…what kind of impact would we see then?
Years ago, I was introduced to my first Norwex EnviroCloth. I have radically reduced my use of paper towels since.
At my presentations I give a challenge. Take a pen and write in the tube the date when you open a new roll of paper towel. First see if you can go 4 months with one roll, then 6… make it a family goal to stretch one roll of paper towel to last over one entire year! You can do it! Other customers have done it, I know you can do it too. Image with me the impact that would be realized by simply changing the way society uses paper towel.
Since I started my Norwex journey in 2006, thousands of Consultants have been working with me to spend the word about these amazing products. Believing what Nelson Mandela says is true, we have a lot more educating to do. Every grocery / department store I visit is laden with at least one aisle of toxic cleaning chemicals. Join my team, become an educator and help us make a difference.
A women I admire is Amy Cadora. She is a single mother of two children and they set a goal with the family weekly. On Friday, if their recycle bag is fuller than their garbage bag you have a celebratory pizza dinner!
Tell me how your family is making goals to make a difference for the future: post here!
