Norwex Dryer Balls? FAQ

Norwex Dryer Balls? FAQ

Why did my Dryer Balls crack?

Why did the tips turn back?

How long do Dryer Balls last?

Why would I use Dryer Balls instead of dryer sheets?

How can I get fresh scented laundry without dryer sheets?

I get asked lots of questions about the Norwex Dryer Balls and the Fluff & Tumble Dryer Balls.  Hopefully this post will answer any questions you might have about our beloved Norwex Dryer Balls.

Why would I use Dryer Balls instead of dryer sheets?

Answer: According to Scientific American, “traditional dryer sheets and liquid fabric softeners contain some of the most harmful ingredients, including; benzyl acetate (linked to pancreatic cancer), benzyl alcohol (upper respiratory irritant), ethanol (linked to central nervous system disorders) and chloroform (a neurotoxin and carcinogen).  As our clothes cover our skin, these ingredients are both inhaled as well as absorbed into our skin.” Norwex’s dryer balls offer a chemical free option…. isn’t that wonderful!!!

Why did my green Dryer Balls crack?

Answer: The green Dryer Balls are made from a high-grade PVC plastic that is sensitive to change in temperature.  It expands in the heat and contracts in the cold.  The reason Dryer Balls crack is because someone (probably not you) likely left the Dryer Balls in the dryer on a cold day. Think about it, if you leave you dryer balls in the barrel of your dryer they will get cold — almost as cold as outside due to the outside vent attached to your dryer.  When you turn your dryer on, it gets hot quickly, causing a drastic temperature change in the dryer ball, sometimes enough to cause it to crack.  Solution?  Store you dryer balls in your laundry basket.question 1

Why did my green Dryer Ball tips turn black? Are they ruined? Will they stain my clothes?

Answer: Green Dryer Balls will slowly take on the colour from clothing, therefore, turning the tips dark.  Don’t worry, they still work like they did when the tips were bright green.  In fact, in my house, we have been using the same Dryer Balls for the past 10 years and they are still doing their job!  The Dryer Balls will not stain your lighter clothing either… so even if they aren’t as pretty as they used to be, they don’t need replacing.burnt

Why do I still get static?

Answer: Static is caused because hot items are chasing each other around in a confined space… it is physics.  The reason that traditional dryer sheets work to reduce static is that they coat the clothing with chemicals which stops them from sticking together.  The Norwex Dryer Balls add space clothing to allow for quicker drying (saving you electricity costs & reducing wrinkles) and therefore static can occur if you over dry your laundry.  A few static-reducing tips: Reduce your drying time by 25%.  Reduce your drying temperature. Remove light weight or synthetic fibers as soon as they are dry, or wash similar fibers together so they dry evenly.

How can I add a fresh scent to my laundry?

Answer: The Norwex Fluff & Tumble Dryer Balls are made from 100% natural wool and are perfect for adding pure essential oils to your laundry for added scent and medicinal benefits. How? After your laundry is dry, remove 2 of the Fluff & Tumble Dryer Balls and apply 2 drops of pure essential oil (like Lavender) onto each ball.  Simply rub the Dryer Ball in your hands and toss back in on the air fluff cycle (so you don’t damage the oil) for 10 minutes. Your laundry will smell heavenly.

For heavy soiled and smelly laundry – like from pig or dairy farmers, oil field workers, urine scent from working with children or geriatric patients and even bad sweat scent from working or your workout clothes – there is Odour Eliminator. Just place one capful of this amazing enzyme-based cleaner in with your wash cycle and it will remove all unwanted scent.

Which Dryer Ball is better? The green Dryer Ball of the Fluff & Tumble?

Answer: Check out this previous post for a comparison of Norwex’s Dryer Balls.

Chemicals in your Dryer? Try Norwex Dryer Balls…

Chemicals in your Dryer? Try Norwex Dryer Balls…

What is the difference between Norwex Dryer Balls and Fluff & Tumble Dryer Balls?

The question is a good one.  Let me first explain why dryer balls are a good idea.

PROBLEM:  Staticy Clothes… especially during the dry, winter months.  It’s physics!  When hot dry items chase each other around in a contained drum… static electricity happens.

SOLUTION: The supermarket has a very effective product…. dryer sheets.  The reason they work is because they coat our clothing with chemicals that reduce or eliminate static.

DID YOU KNOW? Our clothes cover the largest organ in our bodies… our skin. “According to Scientic American, some of the most harmful ingredients in dryer sheets and liquid fabric softeners include benzyl acetate (linked to pancreatic cancer), benzyl alcohol (an upper respiratory irritant), ethanol (linked to central nervous system disorders) and chloroform (a neurotoxin and carcinogen).”

Not to mention that Dryer Sheets take years to break down in our landfills and add toxins to the soil.

NORWEX SOLUTION: Norwex offers a chemical-free solution for washing and drying clothes. The Ultra Plus Laundry Detergent is an amazing highly-concentrated, superior-stain-fighting, 100% biodegradable, phosphate & filler-free detergent and when coupled with one of our dryer balls, laundry becomes another chemical free area in your home.

So which dryer ball is best for you? Here is the comparison:

The Dryer Balls are a fantastic, durable, long-lasting (I’ve used the same Dryer Balls for the past 10 years) option.  But if you prefer a dryer ball that does all that the Dryer Ball does, plus is 100% natural wool and has the ability to add essential oils to your laundry, then the Fluff & Tumble is the dryer ball for you.  The third option is to use both.  Why?  The more dryer balls you have in your dryer, the more spaces you put between your clothes and the faster they dry.  This reduces drying time, which save you time & money.

Check back soon, as I will be exploring other frequency asked questions about our Dryer Balls on a later post…. Why did the tips turn dark? Why did my dryer balls crack? Why am I struggling with static?  What can I do to make my laundry smell great?

Testimonies to Eliminate Stink…Odour Eliminator

Testimonies to Eliminate Stink…Odour Eliminator

Our homes are often bombarded by unwanted odour.  Life is messy, stinky business.  And that is okay… especially because we usually love those and the activities that stink up our homes… such as hockey-playing boys, well-used running sneakers, sick kid during the night, cloth diapers, the family pet — like our new addition Bentley, just to name a few.

Norwex has a fabulous line of enzyme-based cleaning products, including: Sportzyme, Carpet Stain Buster, Oven & Grill Cleaner etc.  This post highlights the Odour Eliminator, another amazing enzyme-based cleaner that is effective because of the bacterial spores in the solution that work to eat up the organic matter causing the odour.  It is an organic solution that leaves a fresh scent without any dyes or chemical-laden masking fragrances.  My team and I have heard lots of great testimonies about the Odour Eliminator… Here are a few that may be a solution for you.

tip“I want to thank you for recommending Norwex Odour Eliminator as a way to combat pet smells in my home.

I am a cat owner and work very hard to keep my home fresh from a pet smell. After moving my cat boxes to another room, I noticed the “cat smell” in the room. Making sure there where no “accidents” on the floor, I sprayed the room with a mixture of the Odour Eliminator and water. I sprayed the entire room and left (I did not open any windows for airing). I came back a half hour later and the smell had lessened but was it was still there. I sprayed the room again and this time I also sprayed the litter boxes themselves.

WOW!!! I came back about one hour later and the smell was completely gone!

I am so happy to not only have the smell dissipated but the knowledge that it was done with a green product that is safe for pets.  It is amazing!

“Odour Eliminator has now become a part of my cleaning routine with my pets. I cannot thank you enough for making my house happy and healthy!”  Sincerely, A satisfied pet owner ~ Melinda

“I have a client who swears by this for her horse barn!” ~ Melissa Gregson-Webber

“The odour eliminator does just what the name says! It eliminates our cloth diaper odour in the wash with just a squeeze! It also works great to get rid of pet accident smells!” ~ Charly Ball

“At a show I did last night, a lady was having trouble with her cat going #2 in her dog kennel. She sprayed the kennel with a strong dilution of Odour Eliminator and the cat stopped.”  ~ Arlene George

“I love a capful of Odour Eliminator in my fabric softener slot with laundry. I have a boy who still wets at night and in the middle of the night will kick off his soaked bottoms and put new bottoms on. He sometimes leaves them under the covers and I don’t always find them until a day or two later. The smell is very strong. I love that the Odour Eliminator takes care of the source of the odour (as it is an enzyme cleaner) and doesn’t just mask it like scented detergents!” ~ Darci Cree Grifhorst

“I spray the soft surfaces with the diluted Odour Eliminator spray – curtains, pillows, cloth couches and chairs, rugs, etc. I clean 10 cottages every week and do this on a regular basis. Freshens and deodorizes without the heavy scent.” ~ Lois Gitzel

Cooking is another source of unwanted lingering odouring in our homes.  Here is a great tip on how to remove lingering smoke smell from burnt food.  Use 1:7 Odour Eliminator to Water and spritz the air, it works amazing!  Carole Kuypers, a fabulous consultant, admitted to burning the broccoli one night, “ It was broccoli, yes! I used the Odour Eliminator. Love that stuff… works great!”

As you can see there are countless ways to use Norwex’s Odour Eliminator!  It’s that fantastic… another simple way to keep our homes clean (& fresh) without harmful chemicals.

What can you all do with the Norwex Ultra Power Plus Laundry Detergent?

What can you all do with the Norwex Ultra Power Plus Laundry Detergent?

With over 9 years of educating others about the product… I  have heard a lot of testimonials!!  I lead an amazing team of consultants and collectively we share the amazing stories and testimonials about Norwex products from our consultants and customers.  As a team, we have heard all sorts of ways to use Norwex products that aren’t in the brochures, but are so valuable to help others find solutions to the cleaning challenges.  Today’s post is all about the Ultra Power Plus Laundry Detergent, affectionately known as UPP!  It’s name does not do the product justice as you will read… these testimonials I have collected attest to the superior ability of Norwex’s UPP!

Stainless Steel Appliances:

I did a presentation for a newly wed couple and they had picked up a free dishwasher off Kijiji.  The lady giving it away couldn’t stand the smudges and smear marks all over the stainless steal surface.  My host was beyond delighted when I simply removed all the buildup and oil film off the appliance with ease.   At another party, my host had a very high end, triple wide stainless steal range hood. From the date of installation, there was a oily film across the centre of this beautiful kitchen centre piece.  Both my host and her husband were thrilled I was able to remove it!

“I was at a party where I made a solution of UPP with water, dipped my wet EnviroCloth into the solution and amazingly it took off 6 years of water stain drips on the hosts dishwasher that she could not remove. She gave me the biggest hug!!”  ~Deenie Gross

“My past hostess used diluted UPP and an EnviroCloth to remove 4 years worth of stainless steel cleaner residue from her fridge!” ~Stephanie Jones

Clothes Stains:

Do you have any shirts with pit staining?  Well, this is an amazing solution!!  Simply create a mixture of UPP with water and apply to the affected area.  Run it through the washing machine and it will shock you!!  I have a young 20-year-old customer, who attended 6 shows in 8 months.  She fell in love with everything!!  At one presentation she was wearing a cute top, only to lift up her arm and share that the pit stains she had on this favorite shirt, which she had hid under jackets and throws, were totally gone!!

“My daughter’s white dress have a chocolate stain that was from July!!! I made a paste with the UPP and it let it sit overnight. Completely got rid of it!” ~ Natasha Sandoval

“Cleaned coffee that was spilled on my brand new shirt. Dipped it in the water mixed with UPP and it came right out!!”  ~ Kathryn Debree

Furniture Stains:
“Dilute the UPP in water in a spray bottle and clean microfiber furniture. Works amazing.” ~ Jessica Aten

Norwex Microfiber Cloths:

“I tried the ‘deep clean’ where you fill a wash basin tub with boiling water, add a scoop of UPP, add a pile of Norwex EnviroCloths and let soak. Whoa, I was shocked at how much came out of my microfiber! Some cloths I added were clean, right from the drawer. BEST way to revitalize older cloths, for sure!”  ~ Kathy-Sue Dyrland

Summer

From: Summer Shessel

“This is a gross picture of my Travel EnviroCloth. I didn’t have time to boil it so I just put the kettle on and then filled a small bowl with the boiling water a 1/2 tsp of UPP, dropped in the cloth and put a lid on it. Came back a an hour or so later after running errands and this is what the water looked like. Gross! My cloth is so clean now… like new.” ~ Summer Shessel

Jewelry Cleaner:

“Ladies cleaned their rings at a party. Simply, diluted UPP, soak for a few moments, use a toothbrush. (Norwex or another one, I do not use the Norwex toothbrush here, because I talk about saving the best toothbrush for your teeth)”  ~ Jenilee Garnish

Oven Racks:

“I have spent 40 years cleaning my oven and never been able to get my oven racks completely clean, especially without half a day of scrubbing. I put the racks in the tub with a teaspoon of UPP and voila, shiny, clean and just like new! Used the Spirinett with no effort to take off the really bad spots. Love it!” ~ Cathie Luxon-Hines

Sheets:

“Takes the oils out of my massage sheets! And of course my scrubs for massage!” ~ Jessie Brooke

jordana“I think I’ve shared this before but it applies…My daughter covered my beige comforter in a full tube of red lipstick! I made a paste with the UPP and the Stain Remover and brushed it in with a nail brush, then I washed it in the washing machine. I had small flecks left so I repeated and viola!”  ~ Jordana Fast

Flip Flops & Shower Curtains:

The UPP is certainly an extremely versatile product. Here are a couple of my favourites which haven’t been mentioned: 1) Cleaning my Flip Flop sandals. These are the most comfortable footwear with great bling – but the base has texture which collects dust. Nothing cleans them faster then an EnviroCloth dipped in diluted UPP!! They look like NEW in seconds!! 2) I’ll fill our largest juice container with water and diluted UPP, set it on the edge or our tub and soak the shower curtain! Works AMAZING!!

Carpets:

My sister has a white area rug in her home and she added some UPP to the carpet cleaning machine, and it made the area rug look like new!!

“I put the UPP in my carpet steam vac and cleaned my microfiber couch.”  ~ Tina Whitman-Neubecker

UPP is so versatile and effective… I hope you were inspired by the testimonials and success stories I shared. Check back soon for more testimonials about other fabulous Norwex products. If you had success using UPP, please comment below.

Quick & Easy Clean Up For Sick Kids!

Quick & Easy Clean Up For Sick Kids!

This post is not for those with a weak stomach, but it is for those with real-life troubles, like throw up in the middle of the night on your carpet and other undesirable areas and a real-life, non-toxic solution from Norwex.
Our family was invited to a celebration that went late into the evening. Our youngest daughter had enjoyed many treats which were left out and was encouraged to filled her plate.  What 11-year-old doesn’t like great snacks? Unfortunately, later that night at quarter past midnight, Doug and I both heard her in the washroom. In all our 16 years of parenting we had never seen the sight that we were about to find. All three of our girls have been good at either hitting the toilet, or grabbing the throw up bucket located in the hallway closet. Occasionally some vomit would hit the bed, or the carpet, but we had never seen anything like this.  This came on way too fast and furious for her to react. As she crawled out of bed it exploded across her room. It hit everything including her bed, carpet, down the mirror, walls and curtains, everything. With a slight break in the heaving, she managed to make it to the washroom. Standing on the edge of the carpet, it struck again. The projectile vomit reached from the edge of bathroom door all to the way to the wall by the toilet paper. Luckily, the majority of it landed on linoleum, but it was pooling everywhere. It was on the baseboards, down the white cabinetry, on the shower curtain, all over the toilet, even running down the walls. A friend of ours who was once a doctor in the pediatric emergency ward told us that since it came on so quickly it was likely food poisoning. It’s short, but explosive!  Thankfully her last bout hit the bucket.
If you’ve ever been in the same situation you know how we felt.  First, it requires all hands on deck!  Second, it requires comforting and cleaning up the child. Third, it requires tackling the clean up.  For those with weak stomachs, the aroma is sometimes enough to make them want to vomit. After Doug and I assessed the damage, we each picked an area. I was thankful Doug tackled the carpet and I tackled the rest.
When things like this happen in my life, I wonder what on earth do people do without Norwex? Our home was converted over 10 years ago and I can’t imagine our lives without it.
This is the alternative. When our daughter was in grade one, another kid got sick at school.  When our daughter informed the custodian, he came armed with his mop and bucket … but the bucket of smelly water smelled worse than the kid’s vomit.  Our family home is a chemical-free zone.   Our school is not. Our society has affiliated the smell of chemicals with cleanliness. But chemicals are dangerous for us to inhale because when we inhale, we ingest and absorb the chemicals into our bodies. Vomit is gross, but the tradition chemicals used to clean them up, is toxic.  Hence the scull and cross bones.  Just because it’s pictured on many household bottles, that shouldn’t alarm us less.
So how did we clean up our massive midnight disaster? You may laugh, but I considered taking before and after photos, but reconsidered in order to spare both you and I.
Step One:  Get a bucket, a large spoon and scoop up the mess.
Step Two:  Cleaning the linoleum. Grab an EnviroCloth and pour the magical enzyme-based solution Odour Eliminator into a sink of hot water.  The worst thing about vomit is the strong stench and slime. This odour eliminator is unbelievable, it works to eliminator the odour as you work to clean the mess. The enzymes imediately go to work to totally get rid of the odour that fills the room. If you are the one who is sick,  you’ll especially appreciate scent of the Odour Eliminator, as the smell of the vomit alone can make you throw up again.   Tip: Use the Odour Eliminator as a air freshener by diluting with water in a water spray bottle (1:7). This is a chemical-free replacement for aerosol and spray bathroom fresheners.
Step Three:   Launder the bedding, blankets and stuffed animals. Use Norwex Ultra Plus Power (UPP) Laundry Detergent and a cap full of  Odour Eliminator. The enzymes of the Odour Eliminator together with the UPP Laundry Detergent will work to get your linens fresh again. There is no need for chemical-laden-scented fabric softeners to freshen the laundry.
Step Four:  Cleaning the carpet. Our carpet is ivory and therefore we have a handy little carpet cleaner. Put a cap full of  Norwex’s UPP Laundry Detergent into your machine. Once you have gone over the surface, grab your Norwex enzyme-based Carpet Stain Buster. This is an amazing product. It is not designed to give you instant results.  It is an enzyme, it works over time giving you long-term effective results.   After the mess is cleaned up and you are left with the stuborn stain, mist the Carpet Stain Buster over the affected areas and walk away. Let it sit on the surface and the live enzymes will be activated by the organic matter and will remove the stains in the upcoming hours.  Done!
Read this testimony from a Norwex customer.
“My son threw up in the middle of the night all over our cream-coloured carpet. I grabbed the first carpet cleaner off the shelf, a Super Market brand, and used that to scrub the carpet. A week later the carpet was still stained. I took the Norwex Carpet Stain Buster and used that instead of the other brand and within a week the stains were completely gone! As you had explained to me before, I believe it is because the enzymes keep working until they have nothing else to “eat up” and I think this story proves that!”
