Soft Baby Bottoms need Norwex

Soft Baby Bottoms need Norwex

Soft, like a baby’s bottom”…  This saying only tells part of the story about babies’ skin.  Of course baby skin is soft — it is the best!!! — but it is also delicate, fragile and needs to be protected from chemicals in our environment.

Skin is a very important multifunctional organ that provides our bodies with a barrier function, mechanical protection, thermoregulation, immune surveillance and it prevents the loss of body fluids. Healthy skin plays a role in keeping babies alive. It was previously thought that the skin barrier function reached its maturity at about 34 weeks gestation (still in the womb). However, recent data shows that newborn skin goes through a gradual process of maturity in its environment and continues to develop until 12 months after birth —that is all the way until their first birthday!!! Skin care is important during a baby’s first years of life as studies show that baby’s (6-13 months old) and toddler’s (17-24 months old) skin has higher skin reactivity and absorption than adults.

The newborn’s skin is very naturally sensitive, thin and fragile. The skin of the premature newborn is even thinner, therefore highly permeable. This increases the risk of toxicity from the absorption of chemicals. This skin is also more easily attacked mechanically. For example, a baby’s bottom is in constant contact with diapers and being wiped with baby wipes which can cause repeated removal of top layer of skin cells. This increases the permeability of the skin and chance of skin rashes and infections.  The health of a newborn’s skin is so important to the overall health of the child.

Norwex’s Global Mission is to: “Improve quality of life by radically reducing chemicals in our homes.”  This mission does not only apply to how we care for our homes but how we care for our bodies.  The shelves at the supermarkets and drug stores are lined with chemical-filled baby products.  Even with the knowledge of cancer-causing agents, these can still be found in some of the most “trusted” companies baby products.  Isn’t it wonderful that Norwex provides alternative skin care products. Here are a few chemical-free products that will keep your babies clean and safe.

Well-Used Ovens and BBQs need some Love?

Well-Used Ovens and BBQs need some Love?

Recently my family hosted a delicious lasagne dinner for our extended family. It was a full house — with approximately 40 people in attendance. We needed a lot of lasagne that night! We baked a few in the oven and a few (my husband’s brilliant idea) in the barbecue. Not only did we cook a lot of lasagne that night, we made a lot of mess in both my oven and barbecue!  The lasagne exploded all over the place!!!  Lucky for me, Norwex makes a great Oven and Grill Cleaner.

Here are pictures of my personal oven … Before & After.

Cleaning Oven Collage

I did included step-by-step cleaning instructions in an earlier Spring Clean post… but thought that if you have a busy family or a lasagne party, or are hosting Thanksgiving dinner and need to clean up the bottom of your oven before cooking the turkey, or you were ready to put the barbecue away for the winter season, this enzyme-based cleaner will make your oven/barbecue clean and look brand new!

Did you know that the “self-cleaning” cycle in your oven releases toxic lingering fumes in our homes making it an unhealthy for our families and especially our small children and small pets?

Here’s a little ‘how-to’ refresher:

Cleaning Racks CollageCleaning the oven used to be an enormous task but with Oven and Grill cleaner, simply turn the oven on to 175°, once it is preheated turn the oven off. Spray the Oven and Grill solution on the racks, walls, base, door  and glass window. Let the solution sit for 10 minutes. Wipe it clean with a Spirinett and then an EnviroCloth.  These targeted enzyme breaks down any burnt food or residue in your oven or on your racks and turns it into a black liquid which is easy to wipe clean. Never before has cleaning your oven been so simple or toxic free!

What shocks me every time, is how my Norwex EnviroCloth rinses clean after wiping up these significant messes!!

Cleaning your barbecue is also made simple with Norwex Oven and Grill Cleaner. First roll your barbecue on to a tarp to catch any drips from the cleaning solution and black char from your barbecue. It would be awful for the cleaning process to damage your deck boards. Next, preheat your barbecue to approximately 175°. Turn the barbecue off. Then, spray the Oven and Grill cleaner on the racks. Wait for approximately 10 minutes, when you return, wipe down the rack with a Spirinett and then with an EnviroCloth. The EnviroCloth will also do beautiful job of cleaning/polishing the stainless steel exterior of your barbecue.

So if you missed the cleaning fever in the Spring or your summer has been filled with hosting backyard barbecues or lasagna has been exploding in your oven, Norwex has a safe and easy solution… again.

EnviroCloth — New & Improved!!!

EnviroCloth — New & Improved!!!

Isn’t it wonderful when something fabulous gets even more fabulous? The Norwex number one, top-selling item, the EnviroCloth that started Norwex, is now New and Improved !!!

3 things have improved…

  1. COLOUR

For the past nine years I’ve been asked, “what’s with the colour palette for the EnviroCloths???”!!! These cloths have always been available in four colors – red, yellow, blue & green – and now it is available in grey. The grey colour is not only trendy for home decor but it is also practical for hiding stains. It is universal to match any home! The yellow EnviroCloth is now discontinued (that’s okay, it was dedicated for my toilets anyway 🙂 ).

2. MAGNETIC CORNER

Not only is the grey EnviroCloth available in the regular size, it is now also available in a larger size with an added magnet… keeping the Magnetic EnviroCloth convenient and always within reach. Hang it on your fridge, washing machine, barbecue, toolbox, fitness equipment, stroller handle, or simply on your stove. Quick and easy for drying your hands, wiping down a dirt surface, removing streaks and smears, or for drying out the inside ring of your washing machine seal. The magnet makes it quick and easy to hanging your cloth up to dry. This strong magnet in the corner of the cloth will keep your cloth handy 24/7.

3.  MORE MICROFIBER

It gets even better!! For years the EnviroCloth has contained 2.9 million meters of microfiber, which was awesome, but now they are even thicker with more than 10 million feet  / 3 million meters of fiber in every Norwex EnviroCloth.   Making the fiber in each cloth one hundred thousand meters longer.  The fibers in the cloth are still a minimum of  1/200th the size of a human hair.   If you were to unravel the fiber in one cloth, you could reach from Canada all the way to the Gulf of Mexico.

You can FEEL the difference. This makes the cloth more absorbent, totally replaces the need for paper towel, it traps dust and grime inside the cloth and leaves your surfaces streak-free and shiny, all with one amazing cloth. The EnviroCloth replaces the need for any toxic chemicals that used to occupy the space underneath your kitchen sink. Just add water to the EnviroCloth and it has the ability to remove up to 99% of the bacteria from a surface when following the proper care and use instructions.

A FEW USAGE & CARE TIPS:

Norwex Microfiber has the ability to remove up to 99% of bacteria from a surface when following the proper care and use instructions.   But, how old are your Norwex EnviroCloths? Do you know when a your cloth need to be replaced?

envirocloth riddle

Of course, you can still use these older cloths for detailing the inside of your vehicle, wiping down the barbecue or inside your oven, the patio furniture and outside windows. But if you are wanting to clean a surface with an EnviroCloth as a chemical replacement, ensure that the cloth is less than two years old.

You can also use the EnviroCloth dry and with power of static electricity, it will lift small particles of dirt and dust up into the cloth and prevent it from resettling on your surface. Use it damp for heavily soiled areas and it will pick up everything just by using water.

Norwex is the leading distributor of microfiber products globally. Norwex has cutting edge technology in the microfiber industry with micro silver-embedded BacLock™, that goes to work to self-purify and inhibit odors from bacteria, mold and mildew growth within the cloth within 24 hours so that it is ready to use again. Norwex offers one of the most innovative products in the cleaning industry today. The cloths are totally effective to clean your home, just by using water.

The care for the Norwex EnviroCloth is simple. Launder your cloths in the washing machine on a hot cycle with scent-free detergent like Ultra Power Plus Laundry Detergent and dry them in the dryer with Dryer Balls. Always launder them with lint free clothing articles. Never use fabric softener nor bleach. Never submerge them into soapy water. Only use laundry soap for washing your cloths or deep soaking them.

For heavily soiled or stained cloths, pour boiling water over your cloth in a pot or Pyrex dish. Let it sit and soak for 10 minutes. You can also sprinkle in a little bit of Ultra Power Plus Laundry Detergent for extra cleaning power. Then launder as usual.

A FEW NEW PRODUCTS:

The thicker improved EnviroCloth is now available in the Travel Pack sets and the Magnetic EnviroCloth.  And don’t forget that it comes in GREY!!!

Wet Feet, Wet Floor!!!

Wet Feet, Wet Floor!!!

Do you have a swinging shower door that drips water on your bathroom floor? Do you walk around your washroom with wet feet after a shower? Do your kids vigorously splash in the tub, leaving the floor a wet mess? Do you have a hot tub or swimming pool in the backyard and people traipsing through your home with wet feet? Do you have a puppy that comes in with wet paws and coat? Does your toddler  throw cups of water out of the bath or does your baby’s thunder thigh make BIG splashes? Do you have a busy shower with teenagers and the bathmat is always wet?  Are you just tired to bending over to dry your own feet after a shower?  Maybe you have a senior in your life that can’t reach their own toes?

bathmat 1

The Norwex Bath Mat is the solution! It holds 10 times its weight in moisture. That’s enough to catch drips off the door, dry many wet feet, absorb bath water spills, even dry the family pet.  It is also absorbent enough to ensure that every family member’s feet are dry when they step off the mat. The moisture between your toes is even wicked up within seconds of stepping on the mat. To top it off, the Norwex Bath Mat dries faster than a regular bathmat.   This Bath Mat is pure luxury!

The picture below is of my friend’s lovely feet stepping on a Norwex Bath Mat. She lives by the ocean – lucky girl – and makes good use of her mat. She used the shower head to drench her feet 5 times to be able to make her foot imprint visible. The first 4 times the mat didn’t even look wet. It is that absorbent!!!!

BathMat Collage

Do you have an RV? Did you know that the floor of your RV should not get wet. Wet floors could damage the floor by causing it to lift. Place the Bath Mat on the floor by your shower and every family member will walk out of the RV washroom with dry feet.

Have a outdoor swimming pool or hot tub? Put the Bath Mat at your back entrance to catch the drips and dry wet feet before they even enter the house. Do you have a washroom that is regularly visited after using the pool? Use the Bath Mat as your toilet mat to catch all the drips while in the washroom.

This Bath Mat is a top-seller for pet owners. It has so many uses. The Bath Mat can be used to line the bottom of the crate, not only does it dry your pet’s coat, it absorbs any accidents. Simply throw it in the washing machine, with a cap full Odour Eliminator and some UPP Ultra Plus Power Detergent and it will come out perfectly clean. If your dog comes indoors wet, lay the Bath Mat over their bed for them to lay on. The microfiber will absorb all the wet moisture off their coat, leaving the pet bed dry and clean.

Screen Shot 2015-08-05 at 7.07.06 AMI just returned from the Norwex North American Conference in Minneapolis and I am delighted to share that this fabulous bathmat is now available in three colors.

Another quick puppy paw trick: Hang a Norwex Dusting Mitt by the door to dry your puppy’s paws and legs when they come in after a long walk. Your hardwood or tiled floors will never be paw-printed again!

Spring Clean Appliances

Spring Clean Appliances

This post is about deep cleaning kitchen appliances… the ones we couldn’t live without! I would like to share how to spring clean your oven without harmful toxins or the huge amount of energy output spent to run a traditional self-clean oven cycle, plus your fridge and your dishwasher and other small appliances without chemicals.

Oven:

The oven is a hard-working appliance and it shows the efforts of its labour in the grease spots, burnt on food, forgotten splatters and well, you know what I mean. The Oven & Grill Cleaner, a Spirinett, an EnviroCloth and Cleaning Paste will be all you need to spring clean your stove.

  • Preheat your oven to lowest temperature – approximately 170 degrees – and leave your racks in, they need cleaning too.
  • Turn off oven.
  • Standing to the side of your oven, spray the Oven & Grill Cleaner all over the door, walls, racks and floor of oven.  Please be careful to not spray the gasket mesh on the door.  Use a Spirinett to evenly distribute the Oven & Grill Cleaner. With the door fully open, let stand for 5 minutes.  The enzyme cleaner will work to dissolve any roasted chicken or lasagna that escaped its dish.
  • Remove racks and place in sink. Using a Spirinett, scrub down the entire oven and then the racks.
  • Wipe clean with a well-wrung EnviroCloth. Your oven will shine and you will be able to see through the window again.  A four-hour toxic process just became a half hour environmentally-and-canary-friendly process! Done!

Note: As you know, this is a dirty job and may stain your EnviroCloth. Remember to rinse your EnviroCloth well.

Now for the rest of your stove:

  • For the hood fan, remove your silver filter and place in the sink with hot water and a few tablespoons of Ultra Power Plus Laundry Detergent for 5 minutes. It will be shiny and look new.  Use a dab of Cleaning Paste and an EnviroCloth to clean the rest of the hood.  Wipe clean with a well-wrung EnviroCloth.

filter

  • Use a dab of Cleaning Paste and a SpiriSponge to scrub any stove top. It will leave it clean and shiny without a scratch.  For removable elements, soak the catchers in hot water and then use a dab of Cleaning Paste and SpiriSponge to scrub clean. Wipe down stove top and knobs with a well-wrung EnviroCloth.
  • Remove all your items from the bottom drawer. First vacuum up crumbs and wipe clean with a well-wrung EnviroCloth.
  • Remove drawer and vacuum the debris from beneath your stove and use your Wet Mop Pad to clean the floor before replacing the drawer.
  • For the sides of your stove, spray 2 squirts of water on the thick tassel side of your EnviroWand and wipe between your stove and cupboards.  Done!

Note: This method can be used in your toaster oven too.

Fridge:

I recommend spring cleaning your fridge the day before grocery day.  That way your fridge is as empty as it gets and there is less to move in and out.

  • Remove items from fridge.
  • Discard expired items and recycle empty containers.
  • Remove drawers and wash in the sink with warm  water and a squirt of Dishwashing Liquid.
  • Wipe down all the shelves and walls of your fridge starting from the top to allow the crumbs to collect on the bottom. For sticky spots use a little Cleaning Paste and SpiriSponge to remove, for dirty edges and tough-to-get spots use the sharp SpiriSponge edge to loosen and for scuffs use a small square of the Micro Cleaning Hand Pad and scrub clean.
  • To clean the fridge door, remove the door compartments and wash in warm water with a squirt of Dishwashing Liquid, use an EnviroCloth to wipe the entire door.
  • Replace all compartments.  Replace all your food.
  • Repeat the process for the inside of your freezer.
  • To clean the outside of your fridge, grab your Enviro Wand and give it 2 squirts of water on the thick tassel side, run the wand up the side of your fridge, over the top and back down the other side.
  • To clean your water dispenser area, spray with Descaler, let sit for a few minutes, scrub with a SpiriSponge and wipe clean with an EnviroCloth.
  • To clean the floor beneath your fridge, spray 2 squirts of water on the thick tassel side of the EnviroWand and slide all the dirt, debris, pencils and pieces of lego from beneath your fridge.
  • Lastly, wipe down the front of your fridge with an EnviroCloth and polish with a Window Cloth.  For door handle smudges (on white appliances), cut a square of the Micro Cleaning Hand Pad and give it a scrub. Done!

Another Option: You can pull your oven and fridge out from the wall.  Using your well-wrung EnviroCloth you can wipe down the sides and the surrounding cupboards and walls. Vacuum vents/coils. Clean floor with the Wet Mop Pad.

Now with the two toughest appliances clean… we can move on to some easier appliances.

Dishwasher:

This well-loved, often over-stuffed appliance needs a spring clean too.

  • Wipe the door edge with a well-wrung EnviroCloth to clean all the drips.
  • For any hard water/calcium build up or rust, spray with Descaler and scrub with a SpiriSponge to remove.
  • To maintain a shiny dishwasher, reduce the amount of detergent and keep your glasses from getting cloudy, place a Magnet Ball in the cutlery department.  If you already have one, stuff a kid sock through the centre of the ball to clean. Done!

Dishwasher And Descaler

Coffee Pot:

  • Use a dab of Cleaning Paste and a SpiriSponge to clean your pot.  Even if you thought there was no hope… the Cleaning Paste will remove all the coffee stains and make your pot shiny and look new.
  • Wipe the outside of your machine with a well-wrung EnviroCloth. Done!

Microwave:

  • Wipe down entire unit with a well-wrung EnviroCloth. Polish with Window Cloth.
  • Spray two squirts of water on your Enviro Wand and remove dust from beneath your microwave.  Done!

Now that you have started, look how much you have gotten done!  This kitchen is such a great place and now it just got better.

Did you know that this Friday is World Environment Day? Did you know that by cleaning with Norwex you drastically reduce your environmental footprint in our world.  Keep up the good work and Happy World   Environment Day!
